Five double-winners as Skyhawks open key three match week with win

EASTON, Mass. (April 10, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, got back on the winning track with a commanding 9-0 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Senior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led five double-winners for Stonehill as she capped her afternoon with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Saint Anselm junior Alexandra Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at No. 1 singles. Toegemann also teamed up with freshman Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy), the younger sister of Saint Anselm's Alexandra Lawrence, for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Meryl Lawrence was also a double-winner for the Skyhawks as she notched her tenth-straight singles victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.

Senior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and junior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and then picked up singles wins for Stonehill. Frost topped Saint Anselm sophomore Katherine Morrissey (Sturbridge, Mass./Tantasqua) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, while Hickey improved to 33-0 over her career in NE-10 singles matches with a 6-1, 6-0 verdict over junior Rachel Pedro (Weymouth, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) at No. 4.

Junior Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) rounds out the Stonehill double-winners after cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and combining with senior Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Katie Gilligan (Wakefield, R.I./The Prout School) picked up a point for the Skyhawks with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Saint Anselm senior Amanda Brahm (Marlborough, Conn./Mercy)

Stonehill (12-4, 10-1 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow when it hosts Adelphi University for a huge NE-10 matchup at Watt Courts at 2 p.m. The Skyhawks can clinch a share of the NE-10 regular season championship with wins in their last two regular season contests, while a 6-3 victory tomorrow over the Panthers would also give them the inside track for the top seed in the upcoming NE-10 Tournament. Saint Anselm (6-5, 6-5 NE-10) visits Bentley University on Friday at 3 p.m.
