EASTON, Mass. (April 18, 2011) – Second-seeded Stonehill College, currently ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional poll, advanced past seventh-seeded Saint Anselm College with a 5-0 victory this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.

Facing Saint Anselm for the second time in three days after taking Saturday’s regular-season finale 8-1 over the Hawks, Stonehill swept doubles play to earn a 3-0 advantage early, and juniors Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) won the decisive singles matches to send the Skyhawks ahead to the semifinal round for a faceoff with third-seeded Adelphi University.

Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) blanked Saint Anselm’s Amanda Brahm and Colleen Kluberdanz 8-0 in a repeat of Saturday’s result at No. 3 doubles, winning their 10th consecutive match. White and Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) followed them off the court with an 8-2 decision over Lauren DeGuglielmo and Katie Morrissey at No. 2.

Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading), ranked 10th in the East Region in doubles competition, faced an early challenge from Alexandra Lawrence and Erika Sartor at No. 1 doubles, but regrouped after dropping the first game to pull away for an 8-4 victory.

Hickey dispatched Vanessa Centofanti in their rematch at No. 6, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 decision to stake the Skyhawks to a 4-0 lead. White clinched the victory for Stonehill with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Brahm at No. 3.

Stonehill (17-2, 12-1 NE-10) advances to Wednesday’s semifinal round and will host third-seeded Adelphi University on the Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 2:00 p.m.
