Bleankey, Granato Improve to 8-2 in Stonehill Win
Easton, Mass. - Seniors Daniella Granato (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) and Allison Bleankey (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) earned victories in Stonehill's 8-1 conference win over the Pace Setters (2-5, 1-5 Northeast-10 Conference) Sunday afternoon. The women were able to rebound from their 6-3 loss to Bentley College on Wednesday and improve their Conference record to 3-1.
Granato improved her personal conference record to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Pace's Nicole Zalak. She later teamed with sophomore Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) for an 8-3 victory in first singles competition. Granato has one five straight dating back to March 5th. She is now 8-2 overall.
Bleankey also improved to 8-2 with a win at fourth singles. She defeated Pace's Joana Augustine 6-1, 6-2 to improve her conference record to 3-1. This season Bleankey is 1-1 in fourth singles, 4-1 at the fifth spot and a perfect 3-0 in sixth singles competition.
Stonehill swept doubles events on their way to the 8-1 win. Freshmen Caitlin Ryan (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Emily Broderick (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) improved to 6-3 with an 8-0 win over Pace's Rebecca Aaron-Albanese and Kira Dembeck. Ryan and Broderick each won their singles events in straight sets, as well.
The women return to action Wednesday when they host the Assumption Greyhounds (2-1, 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference). The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Stonehill Courts.
