Granato Golden in Post-Season Action
Easton, Mass. - Senior captain Daniella
Granato (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) was one of two
Skyhawks to complete a 2-0 day to defeat the Merrimack College
Warriors (10-8, 8-4 Northeast-10 Conference), 5-1 on Wednesday.
The Stonehill College Women's Tennis team (16-5, 9-3
Northeast-10 Conference) also received two wins from freshman
Emily Broderick (Middlebury, Conn./Pomerpaug) to
secure the Quarterfinals victory for the Purple and White.
Granato teamed with sophomore Sam Dircks (Stony
Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) for one of Stonehill's three doubles
victories. The three wins mark the tenth time the Skyhawks
have swept doubles competition this season. The last time the
women accomplished this feat was April 15th at Franklin
Pierce. The women also swept doubles competition in their
April 7th trip to Merrimack College, apart of a 7-2 regular-season
Conference victory.
Freshman Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Hampden) and senior Elise Clark (Spring Lake, N.J./Saint Rose) each scored a win at second doubles. The two improve to a team-best 14-5. They were 10-1 against NE-10 opponents during the regular season.
Broderick and freshman Caitlin Ryan (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) completed the Skyhawks' doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at third doubles. Broderick and Granato each won in straight sets at sixth and second singles respectfully to close out the contest.
Granato's victory moved her season mark to 18-2 overall, 13-0 against NE-10 Conference opponents. She extended her unbeaten streak to 15 consecutive contests.
The women return to action Friday for the Semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament. Depending on the outcome of the Assumption College at Bryant University, the women could either travel to Bryant or host Assumption. In either scenario, game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
