Alex (Eckhardt) Wilson, ’08, is now in her 11th season as head coach of the Stonehill College women’s soccer program. She took charge of the program after being promoted from assistant coach in June, 2013.

Wilson in her seventh season led the 2019 team to the program's first NCAA Tournament win as they defeated Jefferson University, 2-1. This was the Skyhawks third appearance in the NCAA Tournament following their 11th appearance in the NE10 Tournament, falling in the quarterfinal round. Following the regular season, eight were named to NE10 All-Conference teams, including four to the first team with Tess Erwin '21, Isabella Collentro '20, Kayla Henry '21, and Emma Slade '23. Camryn Thompson '22 and Alex Giardina '21 were selected for the second team, while Kaitlin Brown '20 and Nicole Geraghty '20. Wilson earned her second NE10 Coach of the Year award and first New England Soccer Journal Division II Women's Soccer Coach of the Year Award. Henry was later named to the United Soccer Coaches first team, Collentro and Erwin were selected to the second team and Slade earned third team honors. Henry, Collentro, Erwin, Thompson, Brown, and Slade all were named to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association All-New England teams.  

Wilson led the 2018 team to its second NCAA Tournament bid in program history as they made their 10th appearance in the NE10 Tournament, falling short against Assumption College in the quarterfinal round. The squad finished with a 13-7 overall mark and a 10-4 NE10 record. The Skyhawks recorded eight shuouts in 2018, which is tied for fifth all-time and in the month of October, they went on a seven-win run, its longest since 1999. In the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament, Stonehill lost to the National Champion University of Bridgeport, 2-1. Junior Kaitlin Brown '20 was named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year, while freshman CamrynThompson '22 was tabbed the NE10 Rookie of the Year. Brown was also named to the All-Conference first team along with sophomore Tess Erwin '21, Thompson was named to the second team along with senior Courtney Campo '19. Brown was named to the D2CCA All-East Region second team and Erwin and Brown earned United Soccer Coaches All-East Region second and third team honors, respectively.

With 10 newcomers joining the 2017 team, Wilson led the team to a 7-11-0 overall mark and a 5-9-0 NE10 record, just shyly missing playoffs. Freshman Nicole Garfield was the lone Skyhawk to be named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team. Senior Taylor Shannahan and junior Courtney Campo, both midfielders, were tabbed on the NEWISA All-New England second team, both their first honor. 

Wilson steered the 2016 squad to the programs most historic season thus far. It included a 15-6-1 overall record and a 8-5-1 NE10 mark, while finishing fourth in regular season play and capturing its third NE10 Championship title ever. Wilson also guided the team to its first NCAA Tournament game in the history of Stonehill College women's soccer. The team fell to AIC in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional bracket, hosted by the University of Bridgeport. Wilson coached the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year, Jamie Block '17, and six other All-Conference nods, including, Brianna Duserick '17 (first team), Claire O'Brien '17 (second team), Lauren Kapatoes '17 (second team), Courtney Campo '19 (third team), and Nicole Geraghty '20 (All-Rookie team). The 2008 alumni was named NE10 Coach of the Year and her and Sam Whitney and Meghan O'Brien were named NSCAA Women's Regional Staff of the Year. Wilson also coached the third All-American in 17 years, with Block taking second team honors. 

The 2015 season concluded with a 4-10-4 overall record and a 3-8-3 mark in conference play. Juniors Claire O'Brien and Jaime Block were named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team. Block also earned All-New England honors for the first time with her selection to the NEWISA second team, while O'Brien was named to the NEWISA first team defense for the third consecutive year. 

Wilson led Stonehill to an 8-8-2 record in 2014, including a 6-6-2 mark in the Northeast-10, and the program's first appearance inthe NE-10 Tournament since 2011. The Skyhawks won their first four matches of the season and eventually reached 6-1-1 before earning a top-five regional ranking from the NSCAA.

At the conclusion of the season, sophomores Claire O'Brien and Hannah Fay earned All-NE-10 second and third team recognition, respectively, while both players also collected All-New England accolades from NEWISA. In addition, freshman midfielder Taylor Shannahan earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie team.

In her first season at the helm, Wilson guided Stonehill to a 5-8-1 record in the NE-10, and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NE-10 Tournament.

“I am excited to announce Alex Wilson as our next women’s soccer head coach at Stonehill,” said Brendan Sullivan, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics upon her hiring. “Alex is a dedicated and talented coach who has clearly demonstrated her intellect for the game, her passion for the College, and her desire to elevate the program to the next level. As a graduate of Stonehill, I believe she serves as a great steward for the women’s soccer program and will be a tremendous mentor, teacher and role model for our student-athletes, both now and in the future. I firmly believe the program is in great hands and will soar to new heights under her direction.”

Wilson served as an assistant coach under former head coach Rolando Lopes upon her return to Stonehill last summer during the 2012 season. Stonehill posted a 6-5-6 overall record last fall, missing out on a spot in the NE-10 Tournament by just a single point with its 5-5-5 Conference mark putting the Skyhawks in ninth place. Three of the Skyhawks five losses were by just one goal and the team played nine overtime matches, posting four scoreless double-overtime draws.

As goalkeeper coach, Wilson mentored rising senior Amy Wheaton who was named the Northeast-10 Conference’s Goalkeeper of the Year and collected honorable mention All-America honors from Daktronics as the Stonehill defense that set a new single-season program record for fewest goals allowed with 12, ranking second in the NE-10 for team goals against average (0.65) and fourth in shutouts (8).

“I’m excited to return to my alma mater and lead the women's soccer program at Stonehill to success on and off the field," said Wilson. "Stonehill provided me the opportunity to experience Division II women’s soccer at its finest and I intend to bring that to our current and future women’s soccer student-athletes”

Prior to returning to her alma mater, Wilson spent four seasons as an assistant coach at NE-10 rival Franklin Pierce University serving as the top assistant and goalkeeper coach the latter two years. She assisted head coach Jeff Bailey is all aspects of team operations, with specific concentration on the goalkeepers, defense, weight and fitness training and scheduling. Wilson helped with the Ravens recruiting efforts at the regional and international levels and helped guide the program to three NCAA Tournament bids and a share of the 2008 NE-10 regular season championship.

In addition to her coaching duties with the women’s soccer program at Franklin Pierce, Wilson gained head coaching experience with the University’s men’s and women’s tennis programs for two seasons. The women’s team earned the NE-10’s Team Academic Excellence Award for the highest grade point average in the Conference following the 2011-12 season, while the men’s team held the highest team GPA among male athletic teams at the University that year and also earned the program’s highest win total since 2004.

Wilson was a four-year standout at Stonehill who captained the women’s soccer team twice during her collegiate playing career from 2004-07 and earned All-Northeast-10 second team honors and was a two-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference selection. Wilson also collected two New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England awards over her career. Her 15 career shutouts are tied for fourth all-time in program history, while her 1.00 career goals against average is good for second all-time. She also shares the program record for consecutive clean sheets with four in 2006.

Wilson holds a NSCAA National Diploma and Goalkeeping Level II Diploma and is an ACSM certified personal trainer. Wilson earned her Bachelor’s Degree in communication from Stonehill, with a minor in environmental studies, in 2008 and her Master’s in sports management from Franklin Pierce in 2010. Wilson currently resides in Marshfield, Mass. with her husband, Pete and daughter, Cali.
