Barry Tops No. 19 Women’s Soccer, 1-0, in Overtime

Brown tallied nine saves, a season high

MIAMI SHORES, Florida (October 14, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team, who is ranked No. 19 in this week's United Soccer Coaches' National poll and No. 2 in the East Regional poll, remained scoreless through 90 minutes, as Barry University edged the Skyhawks 1-0 in overtime Monday night on Buccaneer Field in non-conference play.

By the Numbers

  • Stonehill's (9-3-1) Kaitlin Brown tallied a season high nine saves.
  • Barry (4-6-0) saw Tash Hudson tally the game winner, while Minda Forsblom recorded the assist. In net, Maddie Hart-Pomerantz registered five saves.
  • The Bucs outshot the Skyhawks 29-12, while they tallied 14 fouls and Stonehill drew 12.
  • Barry also totaled 13 corners to Stonehill's four in the 94 minutes of play.

How it happened:

  • Barry was very aggressive offensively in the first seven of minutes of the game as they saw three corner kicks and three shots, as Stonehill's defense fended off the Bucs.
  • The Skyhawks took the ball to their attacking third for the first time in the 11th minute of the game, as they set up their first corner kick and Nicole Geraghty sent the ball over the cross bar.
  • In the 15th minute of the game, Camryn Thompson registered the first shot on goal for the Skyhawks.
  • Brown registered four of her nine saves in the second half, while Hart-Pomerantz saw one shot on goal.
  • Hudson found an open space in the 93rd minute of play just inside the 18-yard box as she collected a pass from Forsblom after a Bucs throw in to edge the Skyhawks at 93:17, 1-0.

Outside the Lines:

  • This is the Bucs first victory against a nationally-ranked opponent since 2017 when they beat No. 7 Nova Southeastern, 3-1.

Stonehill will take a week off before traveling to Worcester, Massachusetts to resume Northeast-10 Conference play as they face Assumption College on Tuesday, October 22 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
