NE10 Quarterfinal: Assumption Gets By Women’s Soccer, 2-1

Henry records her seventh goal of the season

Geraghty tallied her third helper of the season, seventh of her career

EASTON, Massachusetts (October 30, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team, seeded No. 3 in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II East Regional and United Soccer Coaches' East Regional rankings were able to tie the game against the No. 7 seeded Assumption College, but the Greyhounds found the back of the net for the go-ahead goal Tuesday night at W.B. Mason Stadium, for a 2-1 victory.

Stonehill's (13-6-0, 10-4-0 NE10) sophomore Kayla Henry recorded her seventh goal of the season, while junior Nicole Geraghty registered her third assist of the season, while junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown tallied eight assists.

Stonehill chose to start with the initial kickoff at the start of the half, the Skyhawks took the ball down to their attacking third and recorded the first corner kick of the game from Geraghty. Courtney Campo ripped a shot that was blocked by the Greyhounds, and Geraghty followed up with her own goal that was stopped by Assumption's Alexis Nason. Henry collected the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net with 50-seconds on the clock for a 1-0 lead.

Assumption took control of the ball in the seventh minute for the first time in the game and dribbled the ball to their attacking third. The Greyhounds saw their first shot on goal from Kallie Villemaire that was caught by Brown in the middle of the net and sometime later Victoria Stowell took another shot on goal from the right channel for Brown's second save of the game. After a turnover in the middle of the field, Assumption drove the ball down the field and Brooke Shatney took a shot on net as she registered the equalizer at 30:22 from about 25 yards out, 1-1.

Brown totaled eight saves in the contest

Both teams were busy in the remaining minutes of the first half as Stonehill had a series of three shots in the 37th minute that included one save, a blocked shot and a ball that sailed right of the post, while the Greyhounds had a four-shot series including a blocked shot, two balls that hit either posts, and then a save that was captured by Brown after a short hop towards the net. The Greyhouds outshot the Skyhawks 13-9 at the end of the half, as Brown registered six saves to Nason's three.

Stonehill began the second half like the first, with its third corner kick of the match, but Assumption cleared the inswinger and took the ball in their control where two shots of goal were taken to the Skyhawks' defensive third. Seventeen minutes into the second half, Diana Bruggeman tipped a ball to Villemaire who netter her 14th goal of the season for the go-ahead goal at 62:38, 2-1. Stonehill continued pressing as they tried to put another tally on the board, but were halted by the Greyhounds' defense taking away any shot possible. The Skyhawks held the shot advantage in the second half, 10-8, but the Greyhounds secured the win to move on to the NE10 Semifinal round to take on the No. 2-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Friday, November 2.

The Skyhawks will now await word on a potential NCAA bid when the pairings are announced at 6:30 p.m., EST on Monday, November 5 via webstream on NCAA.com.
