Women’s Soccer Keeps Streak Alive With 1-0 Victory Over Saint Michael’s

Thompson heads in her eighth tally of the season

Regan tallied her first-collegiate assist in the Skyhawks eighth shutout of the season

EASTON, Massachusetts (October 20, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team, ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II East Regional Poll and the United Soccer Coaches' East Regional Poll, won its sixth-straight game and fourth-straight shutout in a 1-0 victory over Saint Michael's College Saturday afternoon on Skyhawk Field in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Stonehill (12-4-0, 9-4-0 NE10) saw Camryn Thompson tally her eighth goal of the season with help from Caitlin Regan, recording her first-collegiate assist and Kayla Henry with her sixth assist of the season. Junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown registered five saves in her 10th-career shutout.

Saint Michael's took the ball down to their attacking third for the first shot of the game as the ball sailed high over the crossbar at 1:23. Stonehill responded with four shots, with one shot on goal from Nicole Geraghty that was tipped by the goalkeeper and hit the crossbar in the next six minutes of the game. The Skyhawks put pressure on the Purple Knights, as they saw back-to-back corners and Saint Michael's answered well keeping the ball outside the 18-yard box, and Stonehill saw one shot from Emily Scollard that was lifted over the crossbar from about 20 yards out.

Henry recorded her sixth assist of the season in the Skyhawks' sixth-straight victory

Stonehill maintained possession for most of the game, and in the 22nd minute, after a throw in from Geraghty in the left corner, Henry took the ball inside the box and left footed it to Regan. The freshman bodied the ball high for Thompson to head it to the back left corner of the net at 21:28 for a 1-0 advantage. In the remaining minutes, Stonehill outshot Saint Michael's 8-1, with the total of the first half combined for 17-5, in favor of the Skyhawks.

In the second half, Stonehill once again outshot Saint Michael's 10-5, and the Skyhawks kept control for most of the frame. The Purple Knights picked up the pace in the final five minutes of the game and took the ball to their attacking third multiple times but were shut down by Stonehill's defense and were called for being offside.

Stonehill will travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to take on NE10 rival Bentley University for their final regular season Conference game of the season on Wednesday, October 24 with a 3:00 p.m. start time. The Skyhawks will wrap up the regular season with a non-conference matchup against LIU Post, who is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II East Regional Standings and United Soccer Coaches East Regional poll.

During the month of October, the women's soccer team will be wearing pink to honor anyone who is affected by breast cancer supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
