Thompson nets her fifth-straight goal in four games

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (September 18, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team tallied the first goal of the game, but American International College scored three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory Tuesday night at Abdow Field.
Stonehill (5-2-0, 2-2-0 NE10) saw Camryn Thompson (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) with her sixth goal of the season, with assist from Nadia Havens (Franklin, Massachusetts/Franklin), who notched her first-collegiate assist.
The Skyhawks put the first shot on the board, as Nicole Geraghty (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) took the first corner kick of the game at 2:11 in the first half, and she then notched the first shot on goal at 5:33. The Yellow Jackets were able to defend the attack and clear the ball, but not before Stonehill would put the ball back in the box for back-to-back shots by Havens and Thompson that were saved and then ricocheted off the post, respectively. A few seconds later, Stonehill's offensive pressure paid off as Havens found Thompson for her sixth goal of the season and Havens' first-collegiate assist, for a 1-0 advantage at 17:24.
The Yellow Jackets aimed to respond and knotted the game at one, 1-1, in the 28th minute of the game with a helper from Federica Frew who sent the ball to Jennifer Hackett for the equalizer. As both teams battled for possession in the remaining minutes of the first half, American International connected in the 40th minute for their second goal of the game. Paige Medeiros dished the ball to Annina Sankoh for the one-goal edge, 2-1, at 39:43.
In the second half, both teams totaled seven shots apiece and both teams registered four each in the first half for an even 11-11 shot tally at the end of the game. Within the first 30 minutes of the second half, both teams had recorded six shots each, but American International snipped a third goal at 76:44 by Josefine Stendahl. Jocylyn Deome booted the ball to Stendahl who was in the right channel and was able to lift the ball from the 30 yard line past the goalkeeper on the left for a two-goal lead, 3-1.
The Skyhawks offense continued to bring the ball to their attacking third, but the Yellow Jackets defended the ball and stopped Stonehill from putting another one in net.
Stonehill will host Pace University on Saturday, September 22 on Skyhawk Field with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff. The Skyhawks will be sporting rainbow laces to participate in United Soccer Coaches' Play With Pride Week in support of athletes and coaches of all sexual orientations.
