Women’s Soccer Tops Le Moyne College, 3-2

Havens scores first-career tally and game-winning goal

Thompson kicks off the Skyhawks scoring with her fifth goal of the season

EASTON, Massachusetts (September 15, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team scored early and edged Le Moyne College, 3-2, Saturday morning in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Stonehill (5-1-0, 2-1-0 NE10) saw Camryn Thompson with her fifth goal of the season, Nicole Garfield register her third of the season, and sophomore Nadia Havens chipped in her first-career points and game-winning goal. Assists came from Nicole Geraghty, Alex Giardinaand Elizabeth Nerger.

Stonehill got on board quick as Thompson found the back of the net with a cross from Geraghty who was on the left side. Thompson sent the ball in from the top of the six-yard box as it ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar into the net for a 1-0 advantage at 2:25 in the first half. Both teams traded shots and fouls following the first goal, until Le Moyne answered with the equalizer at 15:55 from Ali Greco who lifted the ball from 30 yards out into the net, 1-1.

The Skyhawks continued pressuring the Dolphin's defense, until Giardina was able to get a pass through to Garfield who was at the top of the six-yard box at 20:07, putting Stonehill back on top, 2-1. Stonehill was able to tally three corner kicks in the rest of the first half, but was halted by the Dolphins' back line heading into halftime.

Le Moyne's Lauren Myers took advantage to knot the game once again with her first tally of the season at 51:39, 2-2. Following a corner kick from Jessica Pignato, the Dolphins sent a cross inside the box, but it was punched out by Kaitlin Brown, who was then beat by Myers for the equalizer. The Dolphins launched three corner kicks in a nine minute span, but Stonehill's defense kept the ball out of Brown's hands.

Neger continues to lead the team in assists, notching her fifth of the season in the victory

With another cross from the left corner at 78:25, this time from Nerger, Havens was able to head the ball to the back of the net for her first goal of her career, giving Stonehill the edge once again, 3-2. Both teams saw a corner kick in the final minutes of the game, but only Le Moyne was able to take a shot in the 84th minute that went wide right.

Stonehill will take on American International College on Tuesday, September 18 with a start time of 7:00 p.m. as the teams will participate in United Soccer Coaches' Play With Pride Week in support of athletes and coaches of all sexual orientations by wearing rainbow laces.
