NE10 Women's Soccer Weekly Report: Week 2

EASTON, Mass. (September 10, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team earned three Northeast-10 Conference awards this week, including Kaitlin Brown (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) as Goalkeeper of the Week, Tess Erwin (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) as Defensive Player of the Week, and Camryn Thompson (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) as Rookie of the Week as announced by the league today.

As a whole, the Skyhawks recorded a 2-0 week, earning victories over Molloy College, 1-0, and the College of Saint Rose, 2-0. The team has thus far posted a 4-0-0 overall record and a 1-0-0 Conference record, giving them the best start since 2016, when the team went 15-6-1. The Skyhawks have now tallied four shutouts.

After seeing her first-collegiate start in net last year, Brown has kicked off this season with four of her six-career shutouts, including the two from last week. The junior posted six saves against the Golden Knights and two versus the Lions.

In the first week of play, the Walpole, Massachusetts native assisted the Skyhawks to defeating Nyack College 5-0 and blanking NYIT 3-0 in the East Region Crossover Cup. In the NE10, Brown is ranked first in save percentage, leads the league with the most shutouts, and tied for eighth in saves.

Erwin has also been a part of the defense that has kept zero in the back for four-straight shutouts. She assisted the defensive line that held opponents to no goals, 19 shots total, eight shots on goal, and four shots block in the two wins this week. After just starting in seven of the 14 games played last season, the sophomore has started and appeared in all four games this year.

Thompson has also made a strong impact on this year's team, as she has netted three goals and chipped in two assists, for eight points to lead the team. She is ranked tied for first in points and goals against average, tied for third in the NE10 for goals, and tied for fifth in assists in the NE10.

The Lincoln, Rhode Island native punched in her second goal of the season in the 38th minute of the game against Saint Rose. Thompson was fed a cross from Courtney Campo (Quincy, Massachusetts/North Quincy) who was inside the 18-yard box, beating the defender for a one-touch to the back of the net, 1-0. For the second goal, the Skyhawks tallied a corner kick in the 77th minute of play and the ball was punched out by the goalkeeper, but Nicole Garfield (Manchester, Connecticut/East Catholic) collected the ball and struck it through the defense to Thompson who tipped the ball for her third of the season.

The freshman scored her first-collegiate goal in Stonehill's first game of the season against Nyack College, as she was one of five tallies for a 5-0 victory.

Stonehill (4-0-0, 1-0-0 NE10) hosts Assumption College on Wednesday, September 12 for its next Conference matchup on Skyhawk Field with kickoff at 4:00 p.m. The Skyhawks then travel to take on Le Moyne College on Saturday, September 15 with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
