Women’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to No. 21 Southern N.H.

Nerger tallies one of two shots on goal for the Skyhawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 30, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team was unable to get past No. 21 Southern New Hampshire University, 1-0, Saturday evening on Larkin Field in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Stonehill's (4-6-0, 2-4-0 NE10) sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) registered six saves in the game, allowing only one goal from the Penmen.  

Southern New Hampshire (8-1-1, 6-0-1 NE10) saw Trisha Luis score the goal with an assist from Reanna Romano, while goalkeeper Paige Salomon record two saves.

The Penmen got on board early with a tally in the third minute of the game. Southern New Hampshire recorded the first shot of the game at 1:12 in the first half, while the team also registered the first corner kick at 2:23. Romano launched the kick from the left side, as Brown was unable to catch the ball, giving Luis the opportunity to send the ball to the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.

There was no action in the first half after the goal, until the ninth minute of the game as Southern New Hampshire struck the ball once more for a shot on goal and save by Brown. Stonehill saw back-to-back corner kicks by Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic), but Southern New Hampshire cleared the ball, bringing the action back to their attacking third.

Stonehill attacked early in the second half with four shots in the first 15 minutes of the frame, but Salomon saved one of them, while the others trailed high and wide of the net. The Penmen's Abigail Maker launched back-to-back shots in the 72nd minute of the game, but the Skyhawks were able to defend the net.

The Penmen outshot the Skyhawks 6-5 in the second half, combining for a 14-6 advantage over Stonehill through the full 90 minutes. Southern New Hampshire also totaled 11 corner kicks to Stonehill's five.

Stonehill travels to West Haven, Connecticut on Tuesday, October 3 for a game against the University of New Haven with a start time of 4:00 p.m. on Arcadio Rodriguez Field.
