Molloy Blanks Women's Soccer, 3-0

Skyhawks outshoot Lions 11-6 in loss

ROCKVILLE CENTER, N.Y. (September 6, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team was tripped up by Molloy College, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon at RVC Sports Complex.

Molloy wasted no time, as Lauren Marinello led a run by Dana Poetzsch who finds the back of the net for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 advantage for the Lions in the seventh minute of the period.

Stonehill had nine shots and four corner kicks in the first period, including a kick by Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) that just sailed enough for the goalkeeper to knock it above the crossbar in the 21st minute. The Skyhawks put pressure on the Lions for the remainder of the first period, but were unsuccessful in scoring an equalizer.

In the first 18 minutes of the second half, the two teams each tallied one shot, but only Molloy was able to connect on an opportunity inside the six-yard box. Stonehill threw the ball in from the sideline in their defensive third, but the Lions capitalized on a misthrow, as Marinello dished the ball to Poetzsch inside the box for a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute.

The Lions recorded four corner kicks in two minutes, as Molly was able to slide in a third goal off the fourth kick in the 74th minute. Kayla Roundsman sent an inswinger from the corner to Amanda Milazzo who challenged the keeper, putting the ball in the back of the net for a 3-0 score, in favor of Molloy. The Skyhawks played defense for the rest of the game, as the Lions only got one shot off in the 79th minute before time expired.

Stonehill (2-1) will travel to Albany, New York to take on Northeast-10 Conference foe the College of Saint Rose, for both teams' first conference matchup. The Saturday, September 9 game will have a 3:00 p.m. start time at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
