Campo tallies first two-goal game

EASTON, Mass. (September 2, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team defeated Nyack College in shutout fashion, 5-0, in the final match of the East Region Crossover Challenge on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Stonehill's (2-0) Courtney Campo (Quincy, Massachusetts/Quincy) recorded her first two-goal game, as Caroline Colbert (Peabody, Massachusetts/Peabody Veterans Memorial) and Isabella Collentro (Sandwich, Massachusetts/Sandwich) tallied their second goals of the season. The fifth goal was from a Warrior own goal in the 52nd minute of the game. This was largest shutout victory for the Skyhawks since Stonehill defeated Le Moyne College in October 2015, 4-0.

Stonehill had four opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the game, as the Skyhawks launched four corner kicks. Two of the kicks resulted in a shot each, as the others were cleared by Nyack's defense.

In the 12th minute, Emily Scollard (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) passed the ball from the right side for Nicole Garfield (Manchester, Connecticut/East Catholic) to knock the ball with her head to Campo who kicked the ball 15 yards out for a 1-0 lead.

The Skyhawks took three more corner kicks before Colbert collected her own rebound in the 43rd minute to put the ball in the back of the net for a two-goal lead, 2-0. Stonehill tallied its' eighth and ninth corner kicks before the half was over.

Once again, Campo acted early and scored a minute into the second half as Nicole Geraghty (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) drove the ball from the right channel about 20 yards and then Campo ripped the ball from center to the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.

On Stonehill's 11th corner kick of the game in the 52nd minute by Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic), Nyack went to defend the ball and headed it into the net, scoring an own goal, extending the Skyhawk's lead to four, 4-0.

Seven minutes later, Gianna Cokinos (Dix Hills, New York/Half Hollow Hills HS West) found Collentro to the left of her open 20 yards out in front of the net. Collentro collected the pass and one-touched the ball over the goalkeepers head, putting the Skyhawks up 5-0.

Stonehill is back in action on Wednesday, September 6 as they travel to Molloy College for a non-conference matchup with a start time of 4:00 p.m.
