Women’s Soccer Records 10th Shutout Against No. 12 Adelphi, 1-0, in NE-10 Semifinal Game

Freshman Geraghty tallies third-career goal in victory

EASTON, Mass. (November 4, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's soccer, seeded fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference defeated No. 12 in the nation and top-seeded NE-10 opponent Adelphi University, 1-0, Friday night at Motamed Field in semifinal play.

For Stonehill (14-5-1, 8-5-1 NE-10) freshman Nicole Geraghty (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) scored the only goal of the game, her third of the season and first game winner. Senior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) recorded seven saves in her tenth shutout of the season.

Adelphi's (15-3-1, 11-2-1 NE-10) goalkeeper Anne Marie Ulliac tallied two saves in the game.

Early in the first half, possession went back and forth between teams, as Adelphi had four corner kicks to Stonehill's three. Geraghty had two shots in the first half, before she connected on a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper that ricocheted inside the left post in the 32nd minute of the game. The Panthers got off five shots before the end of the half leaving the advantage to the Skyhawks, 1-0.

Adelphi pressed from the beginning of the second half until the end, closing in on Stonehill's defensive third. The Panthers had three free kicks at the top left corner of the 18-yard box as two were sent high over the crossbar and one was tipped over by Block. Stonehill's defense stood tall, as Adelphi saw four more corner kicks in the second half and a 16-2 shot advantage.

Stonehill is back in action on Sunday, November 6 when it hosts the winner of sixth-seeded Pace University and seventh-seeded Le Moyne College in the 1 p.m. Northeast-10 Championship match on Skyhawk Field.
