Head coach for four years, Wilson records her most successful season

Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Postseason Awards Release

EASTON, Mass. (November 4, 2016) – Stonehill College head coach Alex Wilson has been named the NE-10 women's soccer Coach of the Year for her first accolade as the Skyhawks' mentor.

Wilson, who is in her fourth season in charge of the soccer program, has seen the most improvement since taking the reigns in 2013.

This year, the Skyhawks kicked off the season with their first Catholic Cup Championship, including a 3-1 victory over Assumption and a 1-0 win over Saint Anselm in the title game. Stonehill continued driving forward, taking off with a 10-0-1 overall record, and 7-0-1 mark in NE-10 play. Stonehill punched its ticket to its first appearance in the NE-10 tournament this year after posting an 8-5-1 conference record, finishing fourth out of the 15 teams. Stonehill earned its first national ranking since 2000, while also recording victories over No. 20 LIU Post and No. 5 Adelphi.

The 2015 season concluded with a 4-10-4 overall record and a 3-8-3 mark in conference play. Juniors Claire O'Brien and Jaime Block were named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team. Block also earned All-New England honors for the first time with her selection to the NEWISA second team, while O'Brien was named to the NEWISA first team defense for the third consecutive year.

Wilson led Stonehill to an 8-8-2 record in 2014, including a 6-6-2 mark in the Northeast-10, and the program's first appearance in the NE-10 Tournament since 2011. The Skyhawks won their first four matches of the season and eventually reached 6-1-1 before earning a top-five regional ranking from the NSCAA.

At the conclusion of the season, sophomores Claire O'Brien and Hannah Fay earned All-NE-10 second and third team recognition, respectively, while both players also collected All-New England accolades from NEWISA. In addition, freshman midfielder Taylor Shannahan earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie team.

In her first season at the helm, Wilson guided Stonehill to a 5-8-1 record in the NE-10, and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NE-10 Tournament.

Stonehill (13-5-1, 8-5-1) faces top-seeded Adelphi University Friday, November 4 in a NE-10 Semifinal matchup at 4 p.m. The winner will advance to Sunday's NE-10 Championship against the winner of Friday's other semifinal matchup between sixth-seeded Pace University and seventh-seeded Le Moyne College, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
