No. 4 Women’s Soccer Edged by American International, 1-0

Both teams battled for possession

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 10, 2016) – The No. 4 Stonehill women's soccer team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference battle at American International College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
Stonehill's (10-2-1, 6-2-1 NE-10) senior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) recorded five saves in the loss, while the team recorded one shot on goal.

American International's (8-4-0, 7-2-0 NE-10) Johanna Nilsson tallied the lone goal, while Stephanie Tweer recorded the helper.

The two teams battled to gain possession of the ball through the first half, as neither team was able to connect on a pass. The Yellow Jackets were able to out shoot the Skyhawks 8-1 at the conclusion of the frame, as Block's four saves also assisted Stonehill with the zero in the back.

In the second half, American International was able to capitalize on a corner kick by Miko Lida in the 51st minute of the game. Tweer was able to collect the ball and dish it to Nilsson who connected for a one-timer, giving American International a 1-0 advantage. The Yellow Jackets were able to get four more shots off before the conclusion of the game, while the Skyhawks weren't able to get through American International's backline.

Stonehill hosts University of New Haven on Wednesday, October 12 for a 7:00 p.m. contest for its Purple & White Game held in W.B. Mason Stadium.
