Saint Anselm Breaks No. 4 Women’s Soccer Streak, 2-0

Two goals in the second half break Stonehill's streak

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 7, 2016) – The No. 4 Stonehill College women's soccer team's season-opening 10-game winning streak came to a halt Friday afternoon after a 2-0 loss to Saint Anselm College at Melucci Field.

Stonehill's (10-1-1, 6-1-1 NE-10) Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) held tallied three saves in the loss. As a team, the Skyhawks recorded two shots on goal and seven shots in the game.

Saint Anselm's (5-6-1, 3-4-1 NE-10) Caly Farina and Kendra Bonczar scored for the Hawks, while Kiley Larocque and Farina were the helpers in the second half. The Hawks totaled five shots on goal and 10 shots in the victory.

A defensive first half saw the Skyhawks record six fouls to the Hawks' three, while Saint Anselm had the 7-4 shot advantage. Block's three saves came in the first half with the Hawks' Cassie Quattropani picking up one.

The Hawks opened up scoring in the second half, as Farina and Larocque play through the middle of the field one-on-one, giving Farina the final touch finishing in the lower left corner. Saint Anselm picked up the opening tally, 1-0, in the 58th minute of the game. About 20 minutes later in the 77th minute, Farina sends the ball up the right side of the field to Bonczar who crosses to the middle sending the ball right over the line for a 2-0 advantage. With 13 minutes remaining, Stonehill was able to get one more shot off before the end of the game.

Stonehill takes on Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International College Monday, October 10 for a 2 p.m. match.
