Senior goalkeeper shuts down the Panthers in the second half

For Stonehill (7-0-1, 3-0-1 NE-10) Meredith Moore (Salem, Conn./East Lyme), Nicole Geraghty (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional), and Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) tallied the goals. Adelphi also knocked the ball in its own goal for a Stonehill tally. This is the best start since 2000 for the Skyhawks.

Adelphi's (5-1-0, 3-1-0 NE-10) Morgan Santoro recorded a hat trick for the Panthers' three goals of the night all in the first half.

The Panthers took control of the first 19 minutes of the game, as Santoro found the back of the net twice. The first time was in the 16^th minute when Nunez played the ball through the middle passing it to Santoro who found the inside right post for a 1-0 advantage. In the 17^th minute, Santoro found the back of the net again as she launched the ball from inside the 18-yard box off a free kick, putting Adelphi up 2-0.

Stonehill would not go down without a fight as Claire O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) found Moore right in front of the net to rip the ball past Adelphi's goalkeeper, grazing her finger tips at the 20-minute mark, closing the gap to one in favor of the Panthers, 2-1.

Adelphi persisted once more as Taylor Sipos sent a through ball down the middle to Santoro dribbling past defenders to find the lower left corner for her third goal of the game in the 28^th minute of the game.

Before the half was over, Stonehill was able to tally two more goals. The first was from Geraghty who recovered a loose ball on the right side, sending the ball past the goalkeeper on the left in the 40^th minute of the game. In the 43^rd minute, Adelphi ended up in a scuffle in front of their own net, where the ball ricocheted off numerous players before crossing the line, knotting the game at three heading into the half.

Entering the second half, both teams were out for the winning goal as the Skyhawks and Panthers had many opportunities but couldn't connect on anything. However, Kapatoes was able to capitalize on a through ball from Madalyn Fernbach (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) where she would beat the goalkeeper to the right, putting the Skyhawks ahead, 4-3.

With about eight minutes left, the Panthers had multiple chances to get the ball in the net, but Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) protected the crease totaling five saves in the nightcap.

Stonehill is back in action on Wednesday, September 28 when it hosts Assumption College in a 4 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
