Duserick registers second-career goal and first game-winner

RINDGE, N.H. (September 14, 2016)- The No. 24 Stonehill women's soccer team defeated Franklin Pierce University 2-1 in overtime Wednesday night at Sodexo Field.
Stonehill (5-0-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) senior Brianna Duserick (Canton, Mass./Canton) tallied her second-career goal and first-game winner in overtime, as Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) scored her third goal of the season to knot the match in regulation. Senior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) recorded five saves, while sophomore Emily Scollard (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) added a second assist to her stats.
This is the first time since 2009 that the Skyhawks have won five-straight games, and the best start to a season since 1999, when the team went 13-0.
Franklin Pierce (3-1-0, 1-1-0 NE-10) scored its lone goal from Madison Finlay who was assisted by Sophie Cousineau.
In the first half, Stonehill and Franklin Pierce battled for possession throughout the 45 minutes. In the 11th minute, the Ravens' Cousineau sent a cross from the left to Finlay, who headed the ball from the top of the six-yard box for a 1-0 advantage over the Skyhawks.
However, the Skyhawks would respond in the 21st minute as Scollard sent the ball from midfield to the 18-yard box, where Kapatoes was able to capitalize on the through ball and volley past the goalkeeper to even the game 1-1. The rest of the half remained in favor of the Ravens, as they outshot the Skyhawks 6-1.
The second half remained scoreless, as the Ravens and the Skyhawks each tallied five shots apiece and neither was able to capitalize for the game-winning goal.
As the first overtime began, Block came up with a huge save to precent the Ravens attempt at a game winner. Moments later, Franklin Pierce was called for a foul in the 91st minute, which resulted in a free kick for the Skyhawks. Duserick lined up at about 35-yards from the cage where the Ravens' Casey Cook stood. Cook misjudged the trajectory of the ball and it one-hopped past her inside the left post at 91:35 for the game-winning goal.
Stonehill hosts Northeast-10 foe The College of Saint Rose on Saturday, September 17 on Skyhawk Field at 2 p.m.
