Undefeated start puts Stonehill on National Polls

Senior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) holds together the Skyhawks' defense with 17 saves

EASTON, Mass. (September 14, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team has earned a No. 24 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Poll in week 2 of competition, as announced by the association Tuesday.

Stonehill's highest ranking of No. 4 came in 1999 when it ended the season 17-3-0, while the Skyhawk's most recent ranking of No. 22 in 2000 was when it kicked off the season with a 3-1-0 start.

The Skyhawks have come out with a 4-0-0 start, blanking their opponents in three of four contests and only giving up one goal. The last time the Skyhawks started a season 4-0-0 was in 2014.

This year, Stonehill has topped its Northeast-10 opponents, Assumption College and Saint Anselm College in the 2016 Catholic Cup for its first title in school history. The Skyhawks also surpassed No. 20 LIU Post, with a 1-0 victory.

Freshman Nicole Geraghty (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) and senior Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) have led the Skyhawks by tallying two goals apiece, and four and five points, respectively.

Nationally, Stonehill ranks in the top-20 in four categories including first in shutout percentage (1.000), 10th in save percentage (.950), 12th in shutout percentage (.750), and 19th in goals against average (.250).

The Skyhawks travel to Franklin Pierce University Wednesday, September 14 for its first Northeast-10 Conference contest with a kickoff at 7 p.m.
