O'Brien and Block named to second and third teams, respectively

EASTON, Mass. (November 9, 2015) – Stonehill College junior center back Claire O'Brien (West Hartford, Connecticut/Hall) and junior goalkeeper Jaime Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) have been named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team, the league office announced late last week.

O'Brien and Block, who were named co-captains to begin the season, were the foundation of a stingy defense that ranked seventh in the NE-10 in goals against average (1.16), and registered six shutouts throughout the season.

This is O'Brien's second time being recognized by the NE-10 for her stellar play, earning All-NE-10 second team honors a year ago. The West Hartford, Connecticut native has never missed a contest at Stonehill making 54-consecutive starts on the backline for the Skyhawks. Over that three-year stretch, Stonehill's defense allowed a minuscule 1.28 GAA to opponents in 5,090 minutes of action.

This marks the third consecutive year that O'Brien has collected a postseason award, as she was recognized by the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) with a selection to the All-New England second team following her successful freshman campaign. The junior was named again to the NEWISA All-New England second team her sophomore year and also to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-East Region team. In the classroom, O'Brien was named to both the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll each semester she's been enrolled at Stonehill.

A 2013 graduate of William H. Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, O'Brien was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Scott Ferguson. She was named to the All-Academic team all four years at Hall, in addition to earning Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) All-West Division honors as a junior and senior.

Block earns All-NE-10 third team honors after posting six shutouts in 18 starts this fall, a 1.16 goals against average (GAA), 91 saves and a .805 save percentage. Block currently ranks third in the NE-10 in saves, fourth in shutouts, and minutes played (1708:50), eighth in GAA and tenth in save percentage.

In her career at Stonehill, Block has played in 35 games (34 starts), turned away 179 shots and has recorded a 1.20 GAA in nearly 3,000 minutes in net. The junior goalkeeper has compiled 10 career shutouts. In the classroom, Block has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll four times and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll on two separate occasions.

A 2013 graduate of Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Massachusetts, Block was a four-year letterwinner for Coach Colleen Gibbs. She was named to the Cape Ann League All-Star as a junior and senior, and CAL All-League player as a senior. Block played her club soccer with North Shore United.
