EASTON, Mass. (October 20, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team and Southern Connecticut State University played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Tuesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action.

Southern Connecticut State's reigning NE-10 Conference player of the week Victoria Conde (Madrid, Spain) gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute, finishing on a feed from teammate Kieran DeBiase (Prospect, Connecticut/Woodland Regional) for her fifth marker on the season.

Stonehill would respond in the 58th minute when Freshman Meghan Thomasch (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) dribbled down the left wing and sent a cross into the middle of a crowded box. The ball would strike a Southern Connecticut defender and find its way past junior goalkeeper Erica Ridella (Warwick, New York/Warwick Valley) to knot the game up at one goal apiece, where the score would remain the same for the remainder of regulation time.

Stonehill came out fast during the first overtime period, putting Southern Connecticut's back line under constant pressure. Junior Julia Larson (East Northport, New York/Northport) recorded a shot in the first 22 seconds of overtime, forcing Ridella to make a save. Just two minutes after, Freshman Madalyn Fernbach (Plainview, New York/Plainview JFK) received a pass on the top of the box and sent a shot towards goal. Ridella was up to the challenge as she turned away another Skyhawk scoring opportunity.

Junior goalkeeper Jaime Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) made three saves on the afternoon, none bigger than in the 101st minute when Conde volleyed a shot from close range that Block was able to parry away. Southern Connecticut State had the last scoring opportunity in the 105th minute of the second overtime period, when senior Betti Worth (Bolton, England) received a corner kick and headed the ball with power back towards the far post. The header would beat block but not freshman Emily Scollard (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) who was standing on the post. Scollard chested the ball down to her feet and cleared the ball out of the Stonehill box.

Block held the Owls offense in check after the first half, making two saves in the second stanza and overtime periods while Ridella made four saves on the afternoon.

Stonehill (3-8-4, 2-6-3 NE-10) hosts American International University in an NE-10 tilt on Monday, October 26th on Skyhawk Field at 3:30 p.m. Southern Connecticut State (5-7-1, 5-5-1 NE-10) plays host to The College of Saint Rose, on Saturday at 3 p.m.
