Freshman Madalyn Fernbach nets her first two collegiate goals for Skyhawks

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (September 11, 2015) – Stonehill College earned its first victory of 2015 with a 3-0 shutout of Molloy College this afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at the Skelos Sport Complex.

Freshman midfielder Madalyn Fernbach (Plainview, New York/Plainview JFK) led the way for the Skyhawks, scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career over a two-minute stretch late in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) added a first half tally, while freshman Emily Scollard (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield), sophomore Meredith Moore (Salem, Connecticut/East Lyme) and junior Andrea Mancuso (Highland Mills, New York/Cornwall Central) all recorded assists.

Junior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) made three saves in net for her second shutout of the season.

Shannahan nearly got the Skyhawks on the board early, as she hit the post in the 16th minute before finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute following a cross from Scollard.

Senior forward Meagan Elliott (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) almost doubled Stonehill's lead five minutes later with another shot off the post, and the Skyhawks put two additional shots on net late in the first half, but both were stopped by Molloy junior goalkeeper Gabrielle Batista (Hicksville, New York/Hicksville).

Still leading 1-0 in the 86th minute, Fernbach gave Stonehill some insurance with a goal at the 85:21 mark on a feed from Moore. The freshman added another just 2:15 later with a chip shot over Batista, who was out of position.

The Skyhawks were on the attack all day, outshooting Molloy by an 18-6 margin while also holding a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Stonehill (1-1-1, 0-0 NE-10) will be right back in action tomorrow with a 2:30 p.m. contest at LIU Post, while Molloy (1-1-2, 0-0 ECC) is off for a week before traveling to Queens College for its conference opener next Saturday afternoon.
