Skyhawks and Greyhounds set to face off for the third time this season

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2014) – Top-seeded Assumption College will host eighth-seeded Stonehill College tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer Championship at Assumption's Multi-Sport Stadium.
Stonehill (8-7-2, 6-6-2 NE-10) is making its return to the NE-10 Championship following a two-year absence. The Skyhawks' last appearance came in 2011, when they defeated Southern Connecticut State University, 3-2, in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion the College of Saint Rose, 2-0, in the semifinal round. Stonehill is 11-11 (.500) all-time in NE-10 Championship action, advancing to seven semifinals and three finals, while winning titles in 1993 and 1995.
Assumption (13-3-1, 12-2 NE-10) is in the midst of one of its most successful campaigns in program history, as the Greyhounds captured their first-ever regular season NE-10 Championship on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over Merrimack College. Assumption qualified for the NE-10 Championship last fall before falling to American International College, 5-0, in the first round. Prior to last season's appearance, the Greyhounds had not qualified for the postseason tournament since the 2005 campaign. Assumption is 9-10 (.474) all-time in 19 NE-10 Championship contests, with six semifinal appearances and four runner-up finishes. The Greyhounds are still seeking their first tournament title.

Tomorrow night's match will be the third meeting this fall between Stonehill and Assumption. In the season opener for both teams on September 5th, the Skyhawks rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals to earn a 4-2 victory over the Greyhounds in the Catholic Cup semifinal in Manchester, New Hampshire. Assumption then came to Easton on October 11th and claimed a 2-1 victory to even the season series. The two teams have met on three previous occasions in the NE-10 Championship, with Stonehill posting 3-1 and 1-0 quarterfinal victories in 1994 and 1996 respectively, and the Greyhounds recording a 1-0 win in the 1999 semifinal round.
Stonehill opened its 2014 campaign with a 6-1-1 record in its first eight games, before going 2-6-1 over its final nine matches of the regular season. The Skyhawks rank seventh in the NE-10 with 27 goals, while their 20 goals allowed are the seventh fewest in the league.
Junior forward Meagan Elliott (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) has been the offensive catalyst this season for Stonehill, as she leads the team and is tied for 13th in the NE-10 with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Elliott opened her campaign with a pair of assists against the Greyhounds in the Catholic Cup, and followed that performance up with two goals in Stonehill's 6-0 home-opening victory over Molloy College on September 10th. The junior also scored in the second meeting between Stonehill and Assumption on October 11th.
Sophomore forward Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Massachusetts/Hopedale) and senior midfielder Carolyn Moodie (Littleton, Massachusetts/Littleton) have also been key offensive pieces for the Skyhawks this fall. Kapatoes has eight points on four goals, good for second on the team, while Moodie has contributed seven points on two goals and three assists.

Senior Kate Wegener (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) and sophomores Hannah Fay (Tolland, Connecticut/Tolland) and Claire O'Brien (West Hartford, Connecticut/Hall) have registered five points each on two goals and one assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) has been solid in her first season as a starter, as she has posted a 1.22 goals against average (8th in NE-10) with a .794 save percentage (8th) in 1480 minutes of action. Block has also registered four shutouts, good for 7th in the conference.
Assumption, currently ranked fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region Poll and eighth in the NCAA East Region Poll, enters tomorrow night's contest unbeaten in its last six matches, with five wins to go with a scoreless draw at Queens College last Thursday. The College of Saint Rose dealt the Greyhounds their last defeat, a 1-0 overtime setback on October 15th at WPI. Assumption has scored the fourth most goals in the NE-10 this season (38), while giving up the fourth fewest (15).
Senior goalkeeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, New York/Whitesboro) has been consistent as Assumption's last line of defense, with a 0.87 goals against average (5th in NE-10) and an .847 save percentage (T-4th in NE-10) to go with seven shutouts, which is tied for second most in the conference.
Assumption's offense has been powered all season by the duo of junior midfielder Paige Radomski (Kingston, Massachusetts/Silver Lake Regional) and freshman forward Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy). Radomski leads the team and ranks fourth in the NE-10 with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists, while Arnold has netted ten goals to go with five assists for a total of 25 points. Both Radomski and Arnold scored in each of the two meetings with Stonehill this season.
Senior back Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Massachusetts/Hanover) and sophomore midfielder Emily Hill (Dedham, Massachusetts/Dedham) have also been consistent contributors on offense with nine points each on three goals and three assists, while senior midfielder Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) has chipped in with four goals.
The winner of tomorrow night's match will advance to Friday's semifinal round to take on the winner of Franklin Pierce University-Southern Connecticut State University contest. Franklin Pierce earned the fifth seed with its 8-5-1 league mark, while Southern Connecticut State finished the regular season at 9-4-1 in conference play, good for the fourth seed.
