Stonehill Falters At Franklin Pierce, 4-0

Skyhawks record two shots on goal in first loss of the season

RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2014) – Stonehill College had its unbeaten start to the season halted with a 4-0 defeat at Franklin Pierce University tonight in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Sodexo Field.

Senior forward Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/University Sant'Anna) scored a pair of goals to lead the Ravens, while junior midfielder Kaycee Pereira (Ludlow, Massachusetts/Ludlow) registered a goal and an assist and freshman goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Massachusetts/Beverly) posted a two-save shutout.

Stonehill sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) made three saves but allowed four goals as the Skyhawks were dealt a loss for the first time in six matches this fall.

After over 40 minutes of scoreless action, Franklin Pierce took a 1-0 lead when Talita Pereira converted a penalty kick opportunity for her second goal of the season at the 40:45 mark. The Ravens doubled their lead just 1:31 into the second half, as Pereira was on the receiving end of a cross from Kaycee Pereira, which she finished with a shot to the lower right corner of the net.

Kaycee Pereira got onto the scoresheet again in the 65th minute, this time with a goal on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Sophomore forward Yasmin Civan (Antalya, Turkey/Whitman-Hanson) capped the scoring in the 90th minute when she picked up a loose ball following a corner kick and found the back of the net.

Stonehill's best opportunity to break through came in the 75th minute, when sophomore defender Brianna Duserick's (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton) shot struck the post.

Franklin Pierce held a 14-7 advantage in shots in the contest, as well as a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.

Stonehill (4-1-1, 2-1-1 NE-10), ranked sixth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region Poll, will look to bounce back on Saturday, as the Skyhawks are set to host the University of New Haven at 12:30 p.m. Franklin Pierce (3-2-1, 1-2-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday as well, when the Ravens host the top ranked Saint Rose Golden Knights.
