Skyhawks lose NE-10 match for first time since conference opener at Pace

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 2, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team dropped a Northeast-10 match for the first time since September 15th, as Stonehill fell tonight at Southern New Hampshire University's Dr. George J. Larkin Field, by a score of 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Southern New Hampshire sophomore midfielder Gabby Cappello (Andover, Mass./Andover) gave the Penmen a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute with her second tally of the season.

Southern New Hampshire would extend its lead in the 78th minute when freshman midfielder Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass./Central Catholic) launched a shot towards the goal from 25 yards away. The ball struck the crossbar, then was knocked into the net by Stonehill senior goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth).

Stonehill would get one goal back in the 88th minute, when sophomore forward Meagan Elliott (Norton, Mass./Norton) found junior midfielder Carolyn Moodie (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) for her first score of 2013. The Skyhawks were unable to muster any heroics in the final moments of the match, however, falling by a 2-1 margin.

Stonehill (3-5-2, 3-2-1 NE-10) will be back in action this Saturday, with a big opportunity, as undefeated, Northeast-10 leading American International College will be in Easton for a noon showdown. Stonehill will honor its 1993 women's soccer team, which was the first in program history to win both the NE-10 regular season and conference championships, at halftime. The contest will also serve as the 2013 Purple & White game for the women's soccer team. Southern New Hampshire (4-4-1, 1-3-1 NE-10) will host Assumption on Saturday night in NE-10 play.
