Skyhawks take 28 shots, but can't find back of the net

EASTON, Mass. (September 8, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team allowed an early goal to visiting Felician College, and was unable to recover, losing 1-0 today in non-conference action at Skyhawk Field.

Senior forward JoJo Pisani (Wyckoff, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) benefited from a Stonehill turnover in the penalty area, collecting the ball and firing it past Skyhawks goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) to give the Golden Falcons a 1-0 lead just nine minutes and 15 seconds into the game.

Stonehill had plenty of opportunities to tie the game, as the Skyhawks took 15 shots in the first half and 13 in the second half, including 11 on goal in the contest. Felician sophomore goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) was impressive all afternoon, stopping 11 shots to preserve the shutout.

The Felician defense forced Stonehill to take the majority of its shots well outside of the penalty area, making Sheridan's job significantly easier. The Skyhawks were unable to convert on two corner kick opportunities in the final two minutes of regulation, sealing their fate in the game.

Stonehill is off until next Sunday, when it faces Pace on the road in the Northeast-10 conference opener for both schools. The Skyhawks next home contest is slated for Saturday, September 21st at 2 p.m., when Le Moyne visits Easton in NE-10 play. Felician returns to action on Thursday at 7 p.m., when it hosts LIU Post in the Golden Falcons 2013 home opener.
