Junior goalkeeper guided Stonehill to lowest goals against total in program history

EASTON, Mass. (November 19, 2012) – Stonehill College junior goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) has been selected to the Daktronics All-East Region women's soccer first team, as determined by a vote of sports information directors in the East Region. Wheaton will now be eligible in voting for the Daktronics All-America team.

Wheaton is the first women's soccer student-athlete in program history to be named to the first team since the Daktronics program began in 2006-07. This is Wheaton's second major award this season as she earned Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Goalkeeper of the Year accolades earlier this fall. Wheaton is the third goalkeeper in Stonehill College women's soccer program history to garner Goalkeeper of the Year accolades.

Wheaton currently ranks tied for fourth overall in save percentage (.889), 22nd in goals against average (0.65), 55th in total saves (96) and 63rd in minutes played (1668:26) among all NCAA Division II goalkeepers. As a team, Stonehill ranks 41st overall in shutout percentage (.471). In the NE-10, Wheaton is first in save percentage, second in shutouts (eight), third in GAA, fourth in minutes played and seventh in total saves.

This fall, Wheaton posted the third-best GAA in program history in a single-season and is tied for fourth overall in shutouts (single-season). Wheaton's 15 career shutouts ranks tied for fourth all-time in program history. The junior goalkeeper was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll three times this season and has collected one NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week award in her career (9/19/11).

In 2011, the Skyhawks tied the then program record (1993 season) for the fewest goals allowed in a single-season at 14. Wheaton was instrumental to program mark compiling a 453 minutes and 13-seconds scoreless streak with 26 saves from September 14 to September 28. Wheaton tallied four consecutive shutouts during that span, tied for first all-time in program history, before her shutout streak was snapped in a 1-0 loss to Bridgeport on September 28 in the 27th minute of action. The Skyhawks went 3-1-1 overall during that stretch.

Stonehill finished its 2012 season with a 6-5-6 overall and 5-5-5 in the NE-10. In her career, Wheaton has a 17-15-9 record overall, a 0.75 GAA and 211 total saves.
