LOWELL, Mass. (October 2, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team shut out UMass Lowell, 1-0, on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at Cushing Field.

Freshman forward Meagan Elliott (Norton, Mass./Norton) delivered for the Skyhawks with her first career goal in the 71st minute and junior captain and goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass.) pushed her scoreless streak to 200-straight minutes with five saves to earn the win, their first since September 12 against Saint Michael's, 2-1, in overtime. During that span before tonight, Stonehill went 0-2-3 with one loss coming in overtime.

Junior back Jaemie Fasanello (East Bridgewater, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) set up the Skyhawks game-winning tally at 70:47 with a cross into the box that Elliott redirected in behind UMass Lowell goalkeeper Jill Carlson (Lexington, Mass./Lexington). Carlson finished the contest with six saves stopping three shots in each half.

River Hawks senior back Casey Schulze (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) nearly put UMass Lowell ahead 1-0 in the 4th minute of play but a fine defensive effort from Stonehill senior back Sara Nagle (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) kept the score even. Before Schulze's shot rolled over the goal line, Nagle charged the ball and cleared it out of danger to prevent Schulze from scoring her first marker of the season.

Stonehill outshot UMass Lowell, 14-11, and won the corners matchup, 5-1.

The Skyhawks (4-2-3, 3-2-3 NE-10) host Assumption College in an NE-10 matchup on Saturday, October 6 at noon. The River Hawks (3-5-2, 2-5-1 NE-10) welcome Pace University on Saturday for an NE-10 clash at 1 p.m.
