Carroll scores game-winner for Southern New Hampshire in 89th minute

EASTON, Mass. (September 26, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Wednesday evening at Skyhawk Field.

Freshman forward Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) potted the game-winning goal for the Penmen at the 88:50 mark as she fired home a loose ball inside the box past Stonehill junior goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth), her first of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) kept the game scoreless in the 37th minute robbing junior midfielder Catherine Kelly (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) of a penalty kick chance with a diving save towards the right corner of the net.

Wheaton was pivotal to the Skyhawks defensive efforts and keeping the game scoreless into the 88th minute of play as she turned away nine shots total including six in the first half. Weldon made three saves for the Penmen.

Southern New Hampshire outshot Stonehill, 24-9, while the Skyhawks held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.

Stonehill (3-2-2, 2-2-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, September 29 as the Skyhawks travel to American International College for an NE-10 clash at 1 p.m. The Penmen visit Assumption College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
