Stonehill And Franklin Pierce Play To 1-1 Tie In Double Overtime

Manning notches first goal of season to force eventual draw

RINDGE, N.H. (September 19, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team and Franklin Pierce University played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Wednesday night at Sodexo Field in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action. Tonight's contest was a makeup of yesterday's matchup which was postponed due to inclement weather.

Freshman forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) gave Franklin Pierce a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute finishing on a feed from teammate Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/University Sant'Anna) for her sixth marker of the season.

Sophomore forward Maddie Manning (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) responded for the Skyhawks at the 42:04 mark as she headed home Melissa Laubi's (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) free kick to even the score at 1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Darmouth) held the Ravens offense in check in the second half making six saves in the stanza. Wheaton finished the contest with ten total while senior Casey Edward (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) turned away one shot.

In the first overtime session, Wheaton stymied the only shot on goal either team faced in extra time as she thwarted Franklin Pierce sophomore Caroline Savasta's (Salem, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) game-winning bid at 91:59.

The Ravens outshot the Skyhawks, 21-4, and won the corners matchup, 8-1.

Stonehill (3-0-2, 2-0-2 NE-10) hosts the University of New Haven in an NE-10 tilt on Saturday, September 22 on Skyhawk Field at 2 p.m. Franklin Pierce (3-2-1, 2-2-1 NE-10) play host to the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions, The College of Saint Rose, on Saturday at Sodexo Field at 7 p.m.
