EASTON, Mass. (September 25, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team blanked visiting Southern Connecticut State University, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field. The Owls entered the contest ranked #25 overall in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National poll.

Freshman midfielder Maddie Manning (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) scored the eventual game-winning goal at 68:20 beating a defender just outside the right corner of the penalty box and roofing a shot into the upper left corner of the net past Owls goalkeeper Jacquelyn Fede (North Haven, Conn./Cheshire) for a 1-0 advantage and her second marker of the season.

Skyhawks goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) preserved the shutout making three saves total with one stop coming in the second half. With her fourth the clean sheet of the season, Wheaton pushes her scoreless streak to 430 consecutive minutes compiling 26 saves during that stretch.

Fede turned away two shots stopping one in each half.

Stonehill outshot Southern Connecticut, 14-9, in the game and won the corners matchup, 4-2.

The Skyhawks (7-1-1, 5-1-1 NE-10) travel to Bridgeport University on Wednesday, September 28 in non-conference action at 6 p.m. The Owls (7-1, 5-1 NE-10) hit the road on Wednesday to play Pace University in NE-10 action at 4 p.m.
