Mathews nets eventual game-winner at 72:12

EASTON, Mass. (September 20, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team used a late second half goal to claim a 1-0 triumph over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Tuesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

The Skyhawks have now won four out of their last five going 4-0-1 during that span.

Sophomore midfielder Casey Mathews (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) struck home the eventual game-winner at 72:12 corralling a deflected ball in the box off of a corner kick and lifting it into the upper left corner of the net past Hawks goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) for a 1-0 lead and her second goal of the season.

The Skyhawks defense held Saint Anselm to zero shots for the remainder of the half helping senior goalkeeper Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) convert her third shutout of the season on one save. Primera made three stops in net for the Hawks.

Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm, 14-2, in the contest and owned a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Stonehill (6-1-1, 4-1-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, September 24 at home in a NE-10 matchup against Southern Connecticut State University at noon. Saint Anselm (1-4-1, 1-3-1 NE-10) travels to New Haven, also on Saturday, for a NE-10 contest at 1 p.m.
