Sophomore keeper pushes scoreless streak to 340 consecutive minutes

EASTON, Mass. (September 19, 2011) – Stonehill College sophomore goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Goalkeeper of the Week by the league office, it was announced earlier today.

In two games played last week, Wheaton extended her scoreless streak to 340 minutes guiding Stonehill to a 1-0-1 week overall. During the duration of the scoreless streak, the Skyhawks are 3-0-1 overall.

In a mid-week contest against UMass Lowell, ranked #5 in the most recent NSCAA Division II East Regional poll, Wheaton turned away five shots in a 0-0 double overtime draw. On Saturday, the sophomore keeper turned in another clean sheet stopping eight shots to lift Stonehill to a 1-0 overtime win over Pace University on the road.

Wheaton has yet to allow a goal this season in four games played (three starts) for the Skyhawks making 23 saves total.

Wheaton's eight saves in Stonehill's 1-0 overtime win over Pace University on Saturday establishes a new season-high for the sophomore goalkeeper besting the six save mark set on Friday, September 9 in a 3-1 win over Saint Michael's. Wheaton stopped six shots in just one half (45 minutes) against Saint Michael's to help the Skyhawks preserve the Northeast-10 Conference victory.

Stonehill (5-1-1, 3-1-1) returns to action, at home, against Saint Anselm College in a NE-10 matchup starting at 4 p.m. at Skyhawk Field.
