Manning nets eventual game-winner for Stonehill in 87th minute

EASTON, Mass. (September 11, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team notched its second Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) victory of the season with a 1-0 shutout over Adelphi University on Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field. The Skyhawks, who snapped a four-game losing streak in the regular season against Adelphi, are ranked 10th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Regional poll while the Panthers are ranked 8th.

Freshman midfielder Maddie Manning (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) deposited her first goal of the season into the top left corner of the net from 18-yards out at the 87:23 mark over the outstretched dive of Adelphi goalkeeper Sam Whitney (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) for the eventual game-winning goal.

Junior back Allison Nagle (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) set up the score creating a turnover on Stonehill's defensive side of the field, crossing midfield and delivering a perfect cross to Madding just outside the top left corner of the box that Manning headed forwarded and struck home for the 1-0 lead.

Whitney (0-1) made four saves in net for the Panthers while Skyhawks goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) turned away four shots, improved to 2-0 on the season and recorded her second-collegiate shutout.

The Skyhawks outshot the Panthers, 13-6, and won the corners match-up 6-4.
