Skyhawk soccer standouts each earn first career selection

St. Martin ranks second all-time in goals and points at Stonehill.

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2010) – Two members of the Stonehill College women’s soccer team have been selected to the ESPN Academic All-District I third team, as voted on by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in New England and New York. Senior Kirstie St. Martin (Providence, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and sophomore Elizabeth Belanger (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central) each earn their first career nomination.

St. Martin holds a 3.68 grade point average as a psychology major at Stonehill, and concluded her Skyhawks soccer career last month ranking second in program history in career goals (40) and points (98). She finished her senior season with a career-best 15 goals and 37 points, and was named to the NE-10 All-Conference first team for the second consecutive year. She was a Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic selection last year, and is a member of the Northeast-10 Commissioner’s and Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls.

St. Martin also earned a pair of national honors last season, as she was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-East Region Second Team and was a New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) First Team All-Star honoree.

Belanger was integral to a defense which posted five shutouts this season.

Belanger makes her first appearance on the All-District squad in her first year of eligibility, carrying a 3.89 grade point average as a biology major. She started every game this season as part of a defense which posted five shutouts and compiled a team goals against average of 1.18, a tenth of a goal better than last year's mark and nearly a full goal better than two years ago. Belanger also picked up an assist this season from the Skyhawks’ back line.

Stonehill finished the season with an overall record of 8-8-2, finishing tenth in the NE-10 standings.
