Purple Knights Beat Stonehill 2-1

Colchester, Vt. – Stonehill fell behind
early and was unable to recover, losing their fourth straight, 2-1
to St. Michael’s on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Knights got on the board in the 19th minute, when senior Kelley Ruch found freshmen Laura Ostrout for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Saint Michael’s finished the half with a one goal lead and a 9-8 advantage in shots.
The Purple Knights extended their lead in the 71st minute, when
Teal Bryan sent a pass downfield to sophomore Jenn Senecal, who put
the ball past freshman keeper Sarah Hickey (Lee,
Mass.) for a two goal advantage.
The Skyhawks cut the lead in half at the 80:28, mark, when sophomore Hilary Byrne (Moretown, Vt.) scored her first career goal, but it wasn’t enough as the Purple Knights held on for the victory.
Hickey finished with four saves for Stonehill, who dropped to 3-6-1 and 2-4-1 in the NE-10.
The Skyhawks return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to take
on Bentley at 3:30 pm.
