Easton, Mass. – A late C.W. Post goal
proved to be the difference as the Skyhawks were unable to put the
ball in the net and fell to the sixth ranked Pioneers 1-0 at
Skyhawk field on Tuesday.
Both teams had chances to score in the first half, the best being
a Brittany Tartara (Bardonia, N.Y.) corner that
hit the far post before bouncing out of bounds in the 31st
minute.
After a scoreless first half, the teams continued to exchange
shots until the 71st minute when Pioneer Ivana Babic took a Lindsey
Nick pass and fired it under the oustretched arms of freshman
keeper Sarah Hicky (Lee, Mass.) from just inside
the 18.
The Skyhawks tried to counter in the final 20 minutes but were
repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Allie Weiser, who finished with
seven saves in the game.
Hickey finished with seven saves for a Stonehill squad that
outshot Post 13-12 and had a 5-2 advantage in corners.
The loss drops the Skyhawks to 3-5-1 on the season. They return to
action when they travel to Vermont to take on St. Michael’s
on Saturday, October 4, at 1:00 pm.
