Boyd Nets Two As Skyhawks Get 2-1 Win

Syracuse, N.Y. - Senior Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) scored two goals in the first 17 minutes of the contest and the Skyhawks defense and goalkeeper Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made it stand as Stonehill earned its first win of the 2007 season with a 2-1 win over host Le Moyne.

Boyd got the Skyhawks on the board before most people had settled into their seats, finding the back of the net just three minutes in on her second goal of the season. She notched her second tally in the 17th minute, beating Dolphin goalie Amanda Abbatiello.

LeMoyne closed the gap to 2-1 when Megan O'Shea scored her fifth goal of the season in the 64th minute, but the Dolphins would get no closer.

Eckhardt made three saves in goal as the Skyhawk defense limited the Dolphins to just four shots on goal. Abbatiello turned away eight Stonehill shots, as the Skyhawks outshot the hosts 12-10.

The win gives Stonehill not only its first win of the season but evens it Conference record at 1-1 heading into Tuesday's showdown with perennial NE-10 power, St. Rose. That match is scheduled for a 4:15 start in Albany.
