October 18, 2006

Four members of the Stonehill College women's soccer team have been named to the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Academic All-Conference squad as voted by the league's 15 sports information directors.

Junior Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and sophomore Rosie Perkins (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) earned spots on the second team Academic All-Conference squad, while juniors Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and Meghan O'Brien (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) were tabbed for third team accolades.

Boyd, a second team all-Northeast-10 selection on the field in 2005, leads Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks in scoring for the second straight season with 11 goals and a pair of assists for 24 points to date, including a school-record four goals in a 5-2 win over Bryant back on September 6th. In the classroom, Boyd has posted a 3.24 cumulative grade point average as a Criminology major at Stonehill and is a four-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll selection.

Perkins, who has posted a 3.87 cumulative GPA as a Biology major, has appeared in 10 matches to date for the Skyhawk defensive unit, which has allowed 1.14 goals per match this season. Perkins appeared in 11 contests as a freshman, registering an assist during her rookie campaign in 2005.

Eckhardt, who joined Boyd on last year's Northeast-10 all-conference squad as the second team goalkeeper, has recorded a 3-3-4 mark with a 1.07 goals against average and six shutouts to date, and in the classroom she holds a 3.37 cumulative grade point average as a Communications major. Eckhardt has recorded 11 career shutouts, including four during her freshman season of 2004, as she posted a career-high seven wins in net last fall.

O'Brien, who holds a 3.56 cumulative grade point average as a Psychology major, is tied for third on Stonehill's scoring list this season with a pair of goals and three assists for seven points while starting all 14 matches to date. She also ranked among the Skyhawk scoring leaders in 2005 in collecting three goals and two assists for eight points while appearing in all 16 matches last fall.

Stonehill, currently 6-4-4 overall and 5-4-4 in Northeast-10 play, has qualified for its first conference playoff appearance in five years in Lopes's second season at the helm. The Skyhawks close out regular season play on Saturday afternoon with a Northeast-10 match at UMass Lowell before participating in next Tuesday's league quarterfinal round contest.
