NEW HAVEN, Conn.-- Sophomore Ashley Bourne’s (Brockton, Mass.) goal with 4:37 remaining in regulation lifted Stonehill to a 1-1 Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer double overtime tie with Southern Connecticut Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

Bourne converted a feed from fellow sophomore Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) for her third goal of the season that lifted the visiting Skyhawks (5-1-2, 3-1-2 Northeast-10) to the deadlock, as the host Owls (6-2-1, 2-2-1 Northeast-10) had taken a 1-0 cushion in the 40th minute of play when sophomore Annmarie Janes (Shelton, Conn.) converted a pass from junior Beth Gandley (Holbrook, N.Y.).

Southern Connecticut outshot Stonehill by a 5-2 margin in the overtime periods, as the Owls had a pair of point blank chances in the closing minutes of the second extra session after the Skyhawks nearly won the contest with just under three minutes to play.

Sophomore Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made nine saves in goal on the day for Stonehill, while junior Stephanie McGinley (Naugatuck, Conn.) made eight stops in net for Southern Connecticut as the Owls outshot the Skyhawks by a 21-15 margin for the match.

Stonehill hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Southern Connecticut travels to Pleasantville, N.Y. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Pace in a Northeast-10 match that begins at 4:00.
