EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Kate McCarthy (North Easton, Mass.) and freshman Kelley Harper (Liverpool, N.Y.) each netted a pair of goals to lift Stonehill to a 4-2 Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer victory over Southern New Hampshire Thursday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

McCarthy gave the host Skyhawks (8-2-2, 6-2-2 Northeast-10) an early 1-0 edge in the 19th minute of play when she converted a pass from junior Caitlin Green (Bedford, N.H.), but the visiting Penmen (6-7-2, 4-5-2 Northeast-10) evened matters just 5:15 later when senior Nikki Cote (Bristol, R.I.) converted a feed from sophomore Michelle Moore (Duxbury, Mass.). Harper’s first goal of the day in the 37th minute gave Stonehill a 2-1 lead at the break, and her second unassisted tally of the day in the 50th minute extended the hosts’ advantage to 3-1. McCarthy converted a penalty kick just three minutes later to stake the Skyhawks to a three-goal edge, and freshman Cary Rivett’s (Uxbridge, Mass.) first collegiate goal on a Cote feed in the 77th minute for Southern New Hampshire closed out the scoring for the contest.

Sophomore Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) picked up her seventh win of the season in goal for Stonehill with a three-save effort in helping the hosts extend their winning streak to three straight, while junior Jessica Langley (Norwich, Conn.) made eight stops in net in relief for Southern New Hampshire over the final 89-plus minutes of action as the Skyhawks outshot the Penmen by a 20-12 margin for the match.

Stonehill travels to Pleasantville, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon to take on Pace in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Southern New Hampshire will be idle until next Wednesday afternoon when the Penmen head to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley in a Northeast-10 match at 3:00 p.m.
