EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made 17 saves, including a stop in the waning seconds of overtime, to lift Stonehill to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Bryant in the Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie for the first 80-plus minutes of action before senior Kate McCarthy (North Easton, Mass.) gave the host Skyhawks (2-0-1, 0-0-1 Northeast-10) a 1-0 cushion with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation by converting passes from senior Kate Sarkissian (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore Hilary Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.). The visiting Bulldogs (3-1-2, 0-0-1 Northeast-10) evened matters just 2:07 later after Stonehill was called for a handball in the penalty area, and sophomore Tricia Spada (Dedham, Mass.) converted the penalty kick to force the extra sessions. Bryant outshot the Skyhawks by a 10-1 margin in the overtime periods, as Spada nearly won the match for the Bulldogs in the closing seconds on a direct kick, but her shot hit under the cross bar.

Freshman Ashley Krapels (West Paterson, N.J.) made six stops in net on the day for Bryant, as the Bulldogs outshot Stonehill by a 31-13 margin for the match.

Stonehill travels to Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon to take on LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 match that begins at Noon, while Bryant hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 outing on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield, R.I. that begins at 3:00 p.m.
