WORCESTER, Mass.-- Senior Andrea Marcoccio (Warwick, R.I.) netted a hat trick and an assist for seven points to lead eighth-ranked Assumption to a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference womens soccer victory over Stonehill Thursday evening at Multi-Purpose Stadium. The win enables Assumption to clinch second place in the final league standings, as the Greyhounds will host Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 quarterfinal round match on Sunday afternoon.

Marcoccios effort enabled her to become the second player in school history to reach the 100-career point plateau for the host Greyhounds (13-2-3, 9-2-3 Northeast-10), as she gave Assumption a 2-0 advantage 27 minutes into the match with a pair of markers set up by sophomore Ashley McMahon (Bethel, Conn.). Freshman Heather Melanders (Shrewsbury, Mass.) goal in the 38th minute extended the hosts lead to 3-0 at the break, and tallies by McMahon and Marcoccio in the first 12:04 of the second half closed out the Greyhound scoring, as junior Michaela Morrisroe (Marlboro, Mass.) added an assist to the Assumption attack.

Sophomore Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) netted both markers in the setback for the visiting Skyhawks, who end their season at 8-4-4 overall and 6-4-4 in conference play

under first year Head Coach Rolando Lopes in missing a Northeast-10 playoff spot by just one point in posting their highest win total in four seasons. Sophomores Hilary Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) and Shannon Murray (Babylon, N.Y.) assisted on Boyds goals, as she finishes the season tied with senior Kate McCarthy (North Easton, Mass.) for the Stonehill scoring lead with 30 points apiece.

Sophomore Lauren Matysiak (Holden, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Assumption with a three-save effort, while sophomore Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made three stops in 79-plus minutes of play for Stonehill, as freshman Marissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.) played in the final 10-plus minutes in net for the visitors as the Greyhounds outshot the Skyhawks by an 18-8 margin for the match.
