Dacosta leads Warriors with eight points

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (March 30, 2019) – Merrimack College, ranked No. 18 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, used a pair of six goal runs to key a 15-5 victory over Stonehill College, among teams receiving votes in the national poll, in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Duane Stadium this afternoon.

Junior Ally Dacosta had a hand in eight of Merrimack's 15 goals with four goals and four assists, while adding two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Senior Amber Feminella totaled six points with five goals and an assist, while collecting eight draw controls, and sophomore Haley Bartlett registered two goals and an assist. Senior Bridget Schofield added two goals and two caused turnovers for the Warriors.

Senior Lauren Trepany finished with 13 saves in the Merrimack goal, while junior Bailey Grant totaled a career-high 15 saves in goal for Stonehill, adding five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Freshman Emma Sullivan led Stonehill with two goals and an assist for three points, while classmate Kendall Fressle netted a pair of goals. Junior Kaity Healey chipped in with a goal and two draw controls.

Merrimack scored the first six goals of the game, including three by Feminella, on its way to a 9-3 halftime lead. Schofield and Feminella scored 29-seconds apart to cap the opening run as the Warriors scored four of their opening six goals within a four and a half minute span. Sullivan broke up the run with a free-position goal with 11:12 to play in the first half, and the Skyhawks scored three of the next four goals, to pull within four (7-3) after Fressle's first of the day with four minutes to go.

Merrimack scored the last two goals of the first half, with Dacosta posting a goal and assist. She opened the second half scoring less than two minutes in as the Warriors sealed the win by scoring the first six goals in the frame to open a 15-3 lead after a free-position goal by sophomore Vicki Palmer with 19:25 left. Stonehill closed out the scoring with Sullivan and Fressle's second goals of the afternoon in the final 14 minutes.

Stonehill (5-4, 2-3 NE10) is back in action on Tuesday, when it visits Southern New Hampshire University for an NE10 encounter at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium next Saturday, April 6, to host Franklin Pierce University at noon. Merrimack (5-4, 5-1 NE10) hosts American International College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
