Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away in Second Half Against Molloy, 13-9

Manzo and Healey lead Skyhawks to third win with three goals each

EASTON, Mass. (March 1, 2019) – Stonehill College closed out a season-opening three game homestand with a 13-9 victory over Molloy College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Junior Kaity Healey and freshman Meghan Manzo each netted three goals to lead Stonehill to the win. Manzo also dished out an assist for four points, with a caused turnover and ground ball, while Healey chipped in two draw controls and two ground balls. Freshman Emma Sullivan scored two goals to go with four ground balls and a caused turnover, while sophomore Olivia Pino added two goals. Junior Jennifer Wheaton contributed a goal and assist, while freshman Julia D'Agostino collected a team-high five draws and sophomore Liz Katsoulis caused three turnovers and had seven ground balls.

Junior Bailey Grant went the distance in goal for Stonehill and posted a season-high 12 saves to preserve the win. Sophomore Allie Long finished with ten saves for Molloy.

Senior Casie Caiazza led Molloy with three goals and three draw controls, while classmate Brianna Wilson also recorded three points with two goals and an assist with seven draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Freshman Kara Rosenberg finished with a goal and assist for the Lions.

Stonehill outscored Molloy 7-3 in the second half after the two teams traded goals in the first half and were tied at six goals apiece at the intermission. Senior Ali Pfeifer (East Meadow, New York/Sacred Heart) gave Molloy its only lead of the game when she opened the second half scoring after 1:38. Stonehill followed with back-to-back goals from Manzo and Wheaton less than two minutes apart to push the Skyhawks back in front five minutes into the half.

Caiazza knotted the score (8-8) for Molloy with a free-position goal with 22:29 remaining, but Stonehill scored the next three goals to provide the first multi-goal lead of the day (11-8) after Manzo's third goal of the half, and second of the three-goal run, with 19:20 remaining. Rosenberg pulled the Lions back within a pair with 18:41 to play, but Healey scored the last two goals of the game to seal the win for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (3-0, 0-0 NE10) is back in action next Thursday, March 7, when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule at Assumption College at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium on Tuesday, March 12, to host American International College at 3:30 p.m. Molloy (2-1, 0-0 ECC) hosts No. 20 nationally-ranked University of New Haven on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
