Falcons outscore Skyhawks 6-2 in the second half to claim win

WALTHAM, Mass. (March 24, 2018) – Bentley University outscored Stonehill College, ranked No. 24 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, 6-2 in the second half to record a 10-8 triumph in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action on Bentley Turf Field today.

Freshman Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Massachusetts/Ipswich) scored five goals, including two in the second half, to lead the Bentley attack, collecting nine draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Massachusetts/Masconomet Regional) added two goals, both in the second half, including the go-ahead goal with 7:11 remaining. She also tallied three draws, three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Sophomore Eliza Bresler (Newton, Massachusetts/Newton North) made eight of her 12 saves in the second half in the Bentley goal, limiting Stonehill to just two goals over the final 30 minutes. She also collected three ground balls and two caused turnovers from the crease. Sophomore Bailey Grant (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) finished with ten saves in the Stonehill goal, adding three ground balls.

Senior Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) netted three goals for Stonehill, adding three ground balls and a caused turnover. Classmate Kelly Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) added two goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover, while classmate Brianna Doherty (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) dished out two assists with two ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman Olivia Pino (North Andover, Massachusetts/North Andover) chipped in with a goal and assist for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill used a 4-1 run over an 11-minute stretch late in the first half to take a 6-3 lead with 3:20 remaining after back-to-back goals from Healey. Shannahan started the run with a pair of goals before a Glavin marker.

Glavin's third of the opening half, with 1:40 remaining, trimmed the Stonehill lead to 6-4 heading into the intermission. The Falcons emerged from the break by scoring the first three goals of the second half to grab the lead for the first time after Glavin's fourth of the game with 10:42 to play. Pino knotted the score at 7-7 with 8:57 remaining, but Gillespie and Glavin answered with consecutive goals 1:12 apart to give the Falcons a two-goal cushion with 5:59 on the clock.

Shannahan pulled Stonehill back within a goal with her third of the afternoon with four minutes to go, but Bentley saw the game out from there, with freshman Jillian Lynch (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) sealing the win with a goal with 36-seconds left.

Stonehill (4-3, 3-3 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday, for its Purple & White Game against No. 25 Assumption College at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. Bentley (4-1, 3-0 NE10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
