2017 IWLCA All-America Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (May 18, 2017) – Stonehill College senior defender Cara Corvino (Dorset, Vermont/Burr and Burton Academy) has earned All-America second team honors for the second straight year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA), the organization announced today.

Corvino, a three-time IWLCA All-North Region performer with her second team selection last week, earns the 58th All-America award in the Stonehill women's lacrosse program's history, with her second straight second team selection, and the 17th in head coach Katie Conover's '03 ten seasons in charge of the program, who was a four-time first team All-American as a student-athlete herself. Corvino is the 13th student-athlete in program history to earn All-America honors multiple seasons and the first since Kelsey Reilly '13 was a three-time All-American in 2011, '12 and '13.

Corvino is also a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection with first team honors for the second straight year this spring, having been named to the All-North Region first team her junior year and third team as a sophomore. She was the leader of a Stonehill defensive unit this season which ranks third in the NE10 with a 9.17 team goals against average, holding ten of its 19 opponents under ten goals. Corvino started all 19 games for Stonehill, totaling a team-high 37 caused turnovers (3rd NE10), with 37 ground balls, while adding a goal and assist for two points and 19 draw controls.

Corvino, an IWLCA All-America second team selection last season, started 58 of her 75 career games played and totaled 131 ground balls, 87 caused turnovers and 61 draw controls over her four seasons. Her 37 caused turnovers this season rank fifth on the program's all-time single-season list. Corvino has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll four semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll once for her work in the classroom.

Stonehill, ranked 16th in the final regular season IWLCA Division II poll and 20th in the final Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division II poll, wrapped up its season with a 12-7 record overall, including a 10-3 mark in the NE10. The Skyhawks reached the semifinal round of the NE10 Tournament for the 18th time in 19 years and are the lone program to appear in every NE10 women's lacrosse tournament.
