Healey sparks second half comeback, finishes with three goals
MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 18, 2017) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 18 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, erased a five goal second half deficit to claim its fourth straight win with a key 11-10 triumph over Southern New Hampshire University at Larkin Field tonight.
Freshman Kaitlin Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) led Stonehill with three goals, including two in the second half, while adding two ground balls and a caused turnover, while seniors Shannon Booth (Pearl River, New York/Nanuet) and Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip) each netted two second half goals for the Skyhawks. Vetter also collected three ground balls and three draw controls, while junior Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) contributed a pair of goals, two ground balls and a draw control.
Junior Brianna Doherty (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) chipped in with a goal and assist for Stonehill, while freshman Bailey Grant (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) registered two saves and a ground ball.
Sophomore Alexis Felt (Manchester, New Hampshire/Brewster Academy) netted a game-high five goals to lead Southern New Hampshire, converting all four free-position shots she took, while dishing out an assist for six points, with three ground balls and a draw control. Classmate Kristin Wilder (Framingham, Massachusetts/Framingham) added two goals and an assist for three points, while junior Alexa Bedell (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) totaled three points with a goal and two assists. Bedell also tallied five ground balls and three draw controls, while Wilder chipped in with two ground balls and two draws.
Senior Nicole Kennedy (Windham, Maine/Windham) finished with six saves in the SNHU goal, with a ground ball and caused turnover.

Stonehill trailed by four (6-2) at the half after SNHU scored the first five goals of the contest, the first two by Bedell and another pair from Wilder. Felt pushed the Penmen lead back to five (7-2), assisted by Wilder, 4:12 into the second half, but the Skyhawks came to life with a six goal run to grab their first lead of the night (8-7) after Booth's first goal with 16:16 remaining. Healey sparked the run with the first two goals two and a half minutes apart.
Felt broke up the run with her fourth goal of the contest with 15:39 remaining, but Stonehill reclaimed the lead as freshman Jennifer Wheaton (Dartmouth, Massachusetts/Dartmouth) netted her 17th goal of the season, assisted by Doherty, with 12:42 to play. SNHU knotted the score again with another Felt goal less than 30-seconds later, but the Skyhawks opened a two goal cushion (11-9) with eight minutes remaining on back to back markers by Booth and Vetter three minutes apart.
Bedell scored her 26th goal of the year on a free-position attempt to draw SNHU back within one with 7:27 to play. Stonehill held from there, with both goalies recording big saves down the stretch and the Skyhawks forcing two big turnovers in the closing two and a half minutes to seal their fourth straight win.
Stonehill (8-5, 7-3 NE10) is right back in action on Thursday when it hosts Saint Michael's College for an NE10 matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (7-7, 4-6 NE10) travels to American International College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
